Watch Servicing

The following work is undertaken for most luxury watch brands when your watch is sent back to their experts for servicing. The key difference between an Interim and a Complete service is that the mechanism itself is disassembled in the latter.

Interim Service

A mechanical watch, like a car, needs to be serviced on a regular basis to ensure that all parts operate to maximum efficiency and without damage for as long as possible.

interim watch service
  • Completely disassemble the case of your watch
  • Replace worn pieces: battery, crown, all gaskets or hands for example
  • Control magnetisation
  • Demagnetise mechanical watches if needed
  • Control the movement
  • Adjust the rate of the movement if needed
  • Clean the case and the bracelet, if the bracelet is metal, with ultrasound waves
  • Reassemble your watch
  • Control the functioning of the watch for 48 hours
  • Control the water-resistance
  • Control and adjust the bracelet and clasp
Complete Service

Occasionally a watch will need to undergo a more complete service. The movement is the most technical and fine-tuned piece of your watch and so a more thorough service may be needed either because your watch has not been checked for several years and the oils of the movement may have dried out or the mechanism of the watch is not functioning properly (for example, due to the case receiving a shock).

Servicing Advice
Please bring your guarantee or relevant paperwork with you when booking a watch in for servicing.

To ensure an accurate and speedy repair/service please provide a full summary of the bumps and bashes your watch has received since its last service.

Most watches are returned to the supplying brand to ensure the best service is achieved. Watches are sent to and fro using Royal Mail's registered post. Insurance for the watch remains the responsibility of the owner.

Vintage and high-end complication models are invariably returned to the brand's main manufacture in Switzerland or Germany in the case of A. Lange & Söhne.

Lead times for a battery change and re-seal are currently 2 - 4 weeks.

For an Interim service, allow 6 - 8 weeks for most brands. For a Complete service, allow 8 - 12 weeks from the date of authorising them to 'proceed' depending on the brand and the watch movement.

Watches worn in water regularly should have their seals water tested at least once every 12 months.
