Marking the start of the festive season, we welcomed a group of very enthusiastic guests who were eager to learn the time-honoured craft of wreath making.

The Sunday morning masterclass was led by the award-winning florist, Narcissus. Our expert teachers had the class winding moss and getting to grips with holly branches. Thankfully we were well fuelled with a selection of delicious breakfast canapes and a glass of fizz to get into the festive spirit. The plethora of foliage and natural ornaments on offer had us all exploring our creative side.

Our wreath expert, Fiona started with the introduction of natural materials and Narcissus’ emphasis on sustainability and reducing plastic consumption. The base of our wreaths was created in recycled metal and all the materials used were natural and compostable.

To create our own wreaths, we first started by ‘mossing up’. The group immersed their manicured hands into large containers of lush, rich earthy moss. This created the framework for the carefully wound bunches of spruce, holly and pine boughs. It amazed us how quickly and easily the wreaths started to take shape.

The decorating step came next with the wiring in of dried orange and lime slices, pinecones and cinnamon sticks. These beautiful additions made the wreaths come to life with the heady aroma of Christmas.

Sharing in the merry spirit, our customers met familiar faces and made new friends in what was a very ‘hygge’ morning. The resulting wreaths were fabulous and now adorn many a door in Edinburgh!

“I absolutely loved making my Christmas wreath in such gorgeous surroundings – aided, of course, by the delicious canapés and helpful florists from Narcissus.” Ms Cooke
