Omega Speedmaster '57 Co-Axial Watch in Stainless Steel

Summary

The Omega Speedmaster '57 Co-Axial watch, inspired by its legendary predecessor, features a black dial with beige transferred dial indications. There is a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock and a 12-hour and 60-minute chronograph recorders on the sub-dial at 3 o’clock. The hour markers are recessed and partially filled with Super-LumiNova that emits a green light.

The polished facetted rhodium-plated central hour and minute hands have been created in the “Broad Arrow” style and are coated with Super-LumiNova. The 41.5 mm stainless steel case is presented on a brown leather strap. At the heart of this timepiece is the Omega Co-Axial calibre 9300, the first chronograph in the brand’s family of in-house Co-Axial mechanical movements.

Launched in 1957, the Speedmaster was an instant classic with its tachymetric scale and chronographic capabilities, but it made headlines in 1962 when it accompanied astronaut Wally Schirra on his orbit around the earth. The Omega Speedmaster became even more famous when it, once again, travelled to space and earned its title of the first watch worn on the moon when Buzz Aldrin stepped onto the lunar surface with one strapped to his wrist in 1969.

A total of six lunar voyages and more than 45 years later, the Omega Speedmaster still remains the only watch approved by NASA for EVA (Extra Vehicular Activity), a bold testament to its robustness, character and a level of reliability considered out of this world. The Omega Speedmaster is one of Omega’s most iconic timepieces, and it is an impressive representation of the brand’s adventurous pioneering spirit.
