Launched in 2008, the Rolex Deepsea takes divers’ watches to new depths and exceeds the most exacting demands of professional divers in terms of precision and reliability. This ultimate diving companion is a development of the Sea-Dweller and the next generation of robust divers’ watches, waterproof to an astounding 3900m.
THE WATCH OF THE DEEP
To ensure the watch’s impressive waterproof capability, each Rolex Deepsea is tested in a special hyperbaric tank developed in conjunction with Comex, the world-renowned specialists in underwater engineering and hyperbaric technologies. Truly a watch of the deep, the luminescent display maximizes legibility in even the darkest waters.
THE ROLEX DEEPSEA CHALLENGE
The Rolex Deepsea benefits from the Rolex-patented Ringlock System case architecture which keeps the watch waterproof, resists the phenomenal underwater pressure, and is fitted with the Rolex-developed helium escape valve. The technological feats of this timepiece inspired the Rolex Deepsea Challenge, an experimental divers’ watch guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 12,000m. On 26 March 2012 it accompanied film-maker and explorer James Cameron on his solo 10,908m dive to the ocean’s deepest point, located in the Mariana Trench.
Like all Rolex watches, each Rolex Deepsea is fitted with a COSC-certified chronometer – a successfully and thoroughly tested self-winding mechanical movement – and is certified to perform at a superlative level as a fully assembled watch. The superlative certification assessment conditions exclusive to Rolex exceed those of watchmaking norms and simulate real-life watch wearing, giving a more representative experience to guarantee performance on the wrist.
